The Setback Series
In June 2026 I tore a rotator cuff muscle, my first injury in the past 20 years. This one slowed me down. After two months of physical therapy (PT, which I started referring to as “patience and time”) I was able to get back on my road bike and start training again. That began a process of getting back into form, but the shoulder still kept me from being able to ride my time trial bike. Now, coming up in less than two months, is the inagural edition of the new World 6-Hour Time Trial Championships and I am dedicated to racing this race. My response to the injury and recovery? Talk about it. Here is “The Setback Series,” a blow-by-blow collection of short videos about the travails of the injury and recovery.
The story begins as I begin to get back on the time trial bike after the rotator cuff injury.
Part two – complete fail. Got to figure it out.
Part three – success on the road bike but, does it translate to a time trial bike?
Part four – ready fire aim? I have a plan, but let’s try something else first.
Part five – time to take a short chill.
Part six – survived the trainer.
Part seven – full pivot.
